One of my greatest hobbies is model railroading. After a vacation in the United States in 1989, I switched from European to American model railroading.

Since 1993, I’m a member of the “National Model Railroad Association (NMRA). I started to build a layout and constantly improved my modelling skills through reading European and American model railroad magazines, and attending a number of NMRA National conventions – 1996 Long Beach, CA., 1997 Madison, WI., 1998 Kansas City, KS., 1999 Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN., 2000 the legendary 20th Century Limited in San José, CA., 2001 St. Louis. MI., and 2003 in Toronto, Canada.

Although being very colourful and interesting, I found out that I had to narrow my modelling field. Since my early years, when speaking of American railroads, the red and silver Santa Fe diesel engines came to mind. And the Santa Fe crossed my favourite states in the US, so this made my decision even easier. To deepen my knowledge I joined the Santa Fe Railway Historical and Modelling Society (SFRHMS). Through the different discussion lists, both NMRA and Santa Fe, I met a lot of knowledgeable people, former railroaders and modellers to learn from.

In 1994 I joined the FREMO (Friends Circle of European Model Railroaders) in Germany. A branch of this group is dedicated to American model railroading. Since the beginning I attended their 3-day summer meets in Unna/Germany. The layout is set up according to the different modules that attend. Besides being a fan of contemporary Country Music, I also like cooking outdoors.

I regularly fire up my BBQ for family and friends.

My favourites are a Weber charcoal grill for all these sausages, hamburgers and steaks that require only short grilling times, and a Joe’s BBQ smoker/grill for everything that takes more than 15 minutes to get done, briskets, spare ribs, turkeys, chickin’ and fish.

And here you’ll find a great chatgroup and forum to discuss everything around barbequing and salsas (Sorry folks, only in german)
